EMERGING PATTERN, TRENDS AND CAUSES OF URBANISATION IN JAMMU CITY, JAMMU AND KASHMIR

Abstract

Urbanization is widely increasing in India as well as world where Jammu city is no exception. In recent years, the city has experienced an unprecedented increase in population attributable to migration from the valley and adjacent villages. towns and other districts. The commercial and industrial activities also lead to urbanisation in the city. This paper tried to analyse the historical development of urbanization in Jammu city and also study the urban growth of Jammu city in relation to its population and area. This paper also seeks to analyze the causes behind urbanization and urban growth of Jammu city. The various causes responsible for urbanization and urban growth of Jammu city are Administrative centre, Employment Opportunities, Industrialization, Commercialization, Social Benefits and Services, Education Facilities, Healthcare Facilities, Migration and Tension in the border areas of Jammu region.
