EMERGENCE OF WOMEN IN SUDHA MURTHY’S MAHASWETHA
Abstract
Sudha Murthy brought a new dimension to Indian English fiction. Her characters are almost Indian. Sudha Murthy’s Mahashweta well portrays how women face struggles in their life and later to self realization to fight against the circumstances with more determination which leads to happiness.
Women were dependent on men but after 1960s the women started becoming independent and started realizing their role in the society. Women played a very important role in story telling through myths, legends, songs and fables. They also started fighting for equal rights. Women started writing from their own experiences. It was said that the majority of women writers write from the Psychological suffering of the frustrated housewives and the repressed and oppressed lives of women of the lower classes. The inequality and discrimination experienced by women are brought into the world through their writings. In early days women were not allowed to express themselves. They were not allowed to get education but today seventy percent of women are educated and they realize their strength.Education plays a vital role in the life of human beings. The study is an attempt to analyse the female character in suthamoorthysMahaswetha. The novel explore the psyche of middle class educated women who march a head in their life from diffidence to confidence and also how education brings light in their life.
