Abstract
Fears and Anxieties of the Parsis: A Study of Rohinton Mistry’s Such a LongJourney. Rohinton Mistry has narrated his community through the different narrative of his characters who invariably express their concern for their community and the changes that affect their community as well as individuals. The fate of the Parsis is bound up with the fate of their community. Such a Long Journey anticipates the community as a protagonist as it deals with the past and present of the Parsi community as Mistry informs the past of his community, comments on its present and anticipates the flow of events to follow through his characters. The study brings out the fears and anxieties of the Parsi community. Various characters belonging to the minority community in the novel express their anguish at the changing pattern of communal relationship in society. Mistry’s sensitivity to impending dangers to his community is expressed by his character’s consciousness of these dangers.
