WHAT DROVE HUMAN EVOLUTION? - AN OVERVIEW
Abstract
The process of evolution, in simple terms, the changes that occur in a given population over time, is by no means a small or transient process. The modern human, the Homo sapiens, represent long strides taken by means of a slow and gradual evolutionary process. While physical evolution, the bodily changes in human species, constitute biological evolution the behavioural trends or adaptations to environs form the more complex arena of cultural evolution. Cultural evolution provides an explanation for how humans changed over time. This paper argues that human evolutionary process was initiated with biological mutations but the pace of evolution was quickened with their ability of learning and communication, making possible cultural adaptation. An analysis of biological and cultural evolution can tell us a lot about changing dynamics of human evolution.
