A STUDY OF AWARENESS AMONG SCHOOL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE’S (SMC’S) MEMBERS ABOUT CONSTITUTION OF SMC AND CONDUCTION OF MEETING.
Abstract
School is a miniature society and both the community and school have an organic linkage. Community participation in education is always required for its development. Historically, communities in different parts of the world have played an important role in the provision and management of schools. However, with the growth of formal education system the linkage between school and community has weakened. In the post independence era, a number of projects had been experimented in India to ensure community participation in Education. Right of children to free and compulsory education act; 2009(RTE; 2009) makes it mandatory for all the schools to constitute school management committee (SMC) and specifies the functions of these committees in the planning and management of elementary education. Further NEP 2020 strengthened SMC by re-designated it as SCMC (School Complex Management Committee). Present study is an investigation to know the awareness level of SMC members of district north- west A and B of Delhi about constitution of SMC and conduction of meeting. Study revealed that a significant percentage of SMC members are not aware about constitution of SMC and procedure to conduct SMC meetings. Also, male community SMC members are more aware than their female counterparts about the same.
