SOCIAL SUPPORT AND EMPOWERMENT: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF ANGANWADI WORKERS IN INDIA
Abstract
Anganwadi workers in India play a crucial role in delivering essential early childhood care and women's health services. This review examines the interplay between social support and empowerment among these frontline workers. By synthesizing existing research, this study explores the types of social support Anganwadi workers receive, the impact of this support on their empowerment, and the subsequent implications for service delivery. The findings highlight the critical role of social support in enhancing Anganwadi workers' capacity to effectively address the needs of their communities. Recommendations for strengthening social support systems and promoting empowerment among Anganwadi workers are provided to improve the overall impact of early childhood care and women's health programs in India.
By examining the various forms of social support available to Anganwadi workers, including familial, community, organizational, and peer support, this research investigates its impact on job satisfaction, work-related stress, and overall well-being. Understanding the challenges faced by Anganwadi workers and the ways in which social support can mitigate these challenges is essential for improving the effectiveness of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) program. The findings of this study will inform the development of targeted interventions to strengthen social support systems and enhance the capacity of Anganwadi workers to deliver quality services.
