A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON TOOTH-SUPPORTED OVERDENTURES
Abstract
Tooth-supported overdentures have been a cornerstone of prosthodontics for decades, offering an alternative to traditional complete dentures and implant-supported prostheses. By retaining natural teeth or their roots, overdentures preserve alveolar bone, improve masticatory efficiency, and enhance patient satisfaction. However, advancements in materials, techniques, and attachment systems have revolutionized their design and application. This article explores the historical context, clinical advantages, challenges, and future prospects of tooth-supported overdentures. Emphasis is placed on patient selection, attachment options, and long-term outcomes, supported by evidence from contemporary literature. By revisiting the concept of tooth-supported overdentures, this review highlights their enduring relevance in addressing diverse prosthodontic needs.
