Abstract

Female’s role in agriculture sector is significant because more than 80 per cent of the economically active women are involved in extensive range of occupations especially in unorganised sector. Women in agriculture is decided by numerous factors like- socio-economic issues, their family income age, education, owner of field, caste etc. in present scenario women carried out almost field task. Women active participation in decision making is considered necessary for rapid agricultural growth and self - reliant India. Steps are to be taken to ensure the access of rural women to agricultural and extension services and support mechanisms and facilities. This will not only make them economically empowered, but will also help them to get credit for productive work. Women still have significant barriers to agricultural productivity despite their importance. Several social and economic factors affect the women contribution in agriculture sector.

In this paper we study women participation in agriculture sectors with special reference to state of Haryana. We want to analyse growth of production of major crops, area and gross cropped area, growth of area and yield under major crops in the state for women empowerment and agriculture. We focused on the major issues and concerns in the agriculture sector and how to cope with those challenges specially for women farmers.
