Abstract
Animal Studies is an emerging and growing field of research in humanities and social sciences. It is an interdisciplinary study of human-animal relations. An encounter with the animal and the alterity of animal lives is the signature poetry of both Lawrence and Hughes’ poetry. When analyzing there shows enough thematic and structural similarities on both the writers and it can be said that Lawrence had inspired Hughes in many aspects. This article will explore how both of them perceive the radical alterity of animal lives, represent the species-typical way of living in the world, challenge human superiority over animals, advocate bio-centric philosophy of the natural world and illumine our moral relationship with animals.
